Car Rental – How to find the best Deals and things you should know before reting a car.

We from VeryGoodTrips.com listed some things you should know before renting a Car. We hope you find the information useful, after reading, check-out our Special rates in our International Car Rental system online.

Here’s the Tips:

American Express cardholders should never buy collison damage waiver from rental car companies. If you pay with the Amex card, you are covered. You should only take liability coverage. Other credit cards may have similar coverage and you should check your agreements or call customer service to confirm before counting on it. If you have car insurance for your regular car, you may be covered and not need any of the insurance provided by the rental car companies.

New York City residents are often excluded from many discounts and deals when renting in Manhattan. To find the best deals in the area, consider taking trains to the surrounding areas in NJ, CT or NY including airports where rates may be the best.

Besides New York City, Airports have the highest rates. If you plan on staying in an area for a long time, consider taking a shuttle to town and then rent from an agency in town. The rates will be considerably less. Keep in mind that returning to this location means you have to take a cab or shuttle back to the airport. The price and hassle may not be worth the effort on a short rental.

If you don’t belong to an association that offers a discount on your car rental, call the rental car company’s toll free number and ask if there are any “specials” Often the reservation agents are empowered to offer you a discounted rate.. but only if you ask!

If you need a vehicle for approximately a month, make sure to check the difference between 28 days (4 weeks) and 29-31 days. Sometimes you pay a significant amount more for those extra few days!

Most companies will tell you that the longer you keep your vehicle, the better per day price you’ll get. Keep in mind that the price per day is relative. If you purchase any optional coverages or specail equipment, (car seats,GPS) you will be paying extra – per day- for those as well.

Most times the best rates are available (for cars) on the weekends. (Minivans and SUV’s will be higher) Check with your rental company to find out what qualifies as a weekend rental. If the rental company starts their weekend rates at noon, you’ll pay a lot more if you want to pick it up at 10am! Most weekend rates end at close of business or midnight on Mondays. Some car rentals require their vehicles to be returned Sunday in order to get a weekend rate. Keep in mind that if the Monday is a holiday and you want to keep the vehicle until Tues, you will probably pay substantially more!

Car rental pricing is like airline pricing – if you travel at off-peak times or make a reservation seven or more days in advance, you often can get a better deal. Last minute rentals and travelling at peak times (like holidays) will generally cost you more.

Like airfare pricing – prices change depending on car availability, the popularity of the location and other factors. Car rental companies adjust their pricing on a sometimes minute-by-minute basis to remain competitive with other companies. Unless it’s an advertised special, there generally isn’t one set rate for a particular kind of vehicle, but rather a range of prices depending on the length and dates of your reservation, the type of vehicle you rent and the location you rent from. Even with special offers, the advertised rate usually applies to a limited supply of cars .

When you see a great rate for the vehicle you want – RESERVE IT RIGHT AWAY – it may not be available later! Unless the vehicle has cancellation or no show policy, you can cancel at any time, without penalty.
